Instructors Thousand Waves is run by two of the most experienced and recognized women martial artists in the country. Jun Shihan Nancy Lanoue and Kyoshi Sarah Ludden have each been training for more than 20 years. K. Lanoue is a 6th degree black belt in Seido Karate and a 2nd degree black belt in Kajukenbo. S. Ludden is a 5th degree black belt in Seido Karate and a 5th degree black belt in Kajukenbo. Both women have taught regularly at the international, multi-art training camps sponsored by the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation, the Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists, and the Association of Women Martial Arts Instructors. Since 1985 more than 60 students have completed the years of dedicated training required to earn a black belt. Currently, more than 21 professional instructors teach in Thousand Waves’ martial arts and self-defense classes and outreach programs. In our tradition, the privileges of increasing rank come with the responsibility to “give forward” the skills your teacher has given you. Advanced level adult and teen students learn the craft of teaching in continuing instructor’s seminars. They share their knowledge by partnering with junior students, assisting in the youth programs, or mentoring beginning adult students. Through this process, our instructors develop the depth of knowledge and skill, both technical and personal, to communicate our curriculum in a deeply traditional, yet unique and creative way.
