Meditations on Violence

Profile: Kathy Kelly

Our guest speaker for our newly created Meditations on Violence Series was Kathy Kelly, one of the co-founders of Voices in the Wilderness.

Voices in the Wilderness has been active since 1996 in fighting against sanctions in Iraq and has led “peace teams” to the country both during the gulf war and the most recent Iraq war. Kathy Kelly is one of the original founders of Voices. She has been to Iraq more than 20 times since 1996, participated in both peace teams and will be returning from her most recent visit to Iraq on September 11, 2003. She also helped organize and participated in nonviolent direct action teams in Haiti (summer of 1994), Bosnia (August, 1993, December, 1992) and Iraq (Gulf Peace Team, 1991). In April of 2002, she was among the first internationals to visit the Jenin camp in the Occupied West Bank.

Kathy Kelly spoke in the dojo from 8:30-9:30 pm on Monday, September 15, 2003.
