What is the Speakers Bureau?
The Speakers Bureau is a group of volunteer members of all ages who represent
Thousand Waves through a variety of free programs. These outreach programs
include:
- Sending our dynamic performance troupe to present “Empowerment
Stories in Action,” a participatory demonstration of Martial Art
and Self-Defense
- Presenting a formal lecture-style program and showing our 35 minute
documentary video The Art and Heart of Thousand Waves
- Staffing information tables at conferences, resource fairs or street
fairs
What is “Empowerment Stories in
Action”?
Empowerment Stories in Action is the free participatory demonstration
of Martial Art and Self-Defense. Black belt teachers and students perform
traditional martial art, teach about the philosophy and history of karate,
share stories of personal transformation, and teach practical self-defense
for adult groups of 25 or more. This free program is open to faith-based
groups, non-profit organizations, community associations and clubs.
- ENJOY dazzling performances by
a diverse team of adults, teens and youth
- LEARN about the fascinating history
and non-violent philosophy of martial arts
- HEAR stories of personal transformation
through martial arts practice
- PRACTICE safe and fun exercises
and techniques with guidance from skilled partners
- EXPERIENCE the stress-relieving
effects of meditation, and find out how to integrate self-care into
your life and achieve optimal physical health
