COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

(Effective 11/7/2023)

Public health authorities continue to recognize the important contributions that vaccination, masking, and testing make in limiting the spread and severity of COVID-19 among individuals and in maintaining the community’s overall health. However, the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, and many health professionals now recognize that we are in the “post-emergency” stage of the pandemic. Thousand Waves is adjusting its policies to be consistent with the institutions around us.

NEW GUIDELINES for TRAINING at Thousand Waves:

  • Beginning on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, Thousand Waves will no longer require proof of vaccination from COVID-19 by its training members, employees, or visitors.
  • Vaccines and regular boosters are strongly recommended for the safety of yourselves and others. All new training members will report their vaccination status, and current training members will update their records once a year until further notice.
  • All unvaccinated people are strongly urged to wear N-95 or KN-95 masks (or their equivalent) over their mouth and nose when they train or visit Thousand Waves.
  • As has long been Thousand Waves policy, you should not train at the dojo if you are exhibiting symptoms of a contagious illness. As we adjust these restrictions, we urge training members and their guests to take on an even greater individual initiative to protect themselves and others.
  • If you have symptoms associated with COVID-19, test yourself and report positive tests to Thousand Waves. Follow CDC guidelines or the guidance of your physician for returning to the dojo. If you’re not certain of these guidelines, ask.

A NOTE ON OUR CURRENT POLICY: Given the evolving nature of COVID-19, we will all need to adjust to whatever situations present themselves. The current change of policy was based on the evolving guidelines of public health officials. Please recognize that if public health conditions change, Thousand Waves may need to reinstate more cautious policies such as mandatory mask-wearing, distanced partnering, online teaching, and the requirement of vaccinations, boosters, or other available medical options.

We strive to develop thoughtful policies and practices at Thousand Waves that are firmly grounded in our Code of Ethics–the principles of Love, Respect, a Non-Quitting Spirit, Courage, and Responsibility to oneself and others.
