Thousand Waves is committed to providing programs for high school and college students, and equipping them with important life skills for violence prevention.  So far in 2009, nearly 200 students have already connected to Thousand Waves through programs for their schools.  Many of these classes came about when a teacher or professor, concerned about student safety, took the initiative to contact us about providing a workshop for students.

Programs have included our popular “Five Fingers of Safety” class, a specialized series of classes for a school’s GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance), plus a workshop focused on partner violence within the GBT community.
Schools hiring Thousand Waves in 2009 include:

  • Harold Washington College
  • Roosevelt University
  • University of Illinois at Chicago
  • New Trier High School
  • Washburne Jr. High School
  • Plus eight high schools that participated in a Project Exploration conference

Coming up in June, Thousand Waves will partner with KAN-WIN (Korean American Women in Need) to provide a self-defense and empowerment program for high school teens and their parents at a summer camp.

Do you know a school that would benefit from violence prevention training?  Bringing a Thousand Waves program to your campus is easy.  Contact us at violenceprevention@thousandwaves.org to explore flexible options.
