Happy 25th Anniversary to Thousand Waves!
On July 31st, the membership of Thousand Waves, past and present, came together from all over the city and country to honor itself. Sensei Ann Tyler, Thousand Wave’s first NFP board chair, summed it up best, addressing the crowd, “We are Thousand Waves.” Thousand Waves is a community, an ethos, the lifetime labor of love of its membership, and especially that of its Co-Executive Directors Jun Shihan Nancy Lanoue and Kyoshi Sarah Ludden, who were honored with two one-of-a-kind gifts. The first is a powerful work composed of images of the black belts of the TW membership created by that first TW board chair, Chicago-based artist and Sensei Ann Tyler. The second is an original commemorative work of Japanese calligraphy by Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura, Seido Grandmaster.
All of us who have been touched by Thousand Waves are eminently grateful for our first 25 years. Words cannot do our appreciation justice; please enjoy these photos of our celebration, a singular night to remember.
