Punch & Kick-a-Thon 2013: A Big Success

Punch & Kick-a-Thon is Thousand Waves’ annual kids’ fundraising event to raise money for
the scholarship fund, the Adapted Seido Karate (ASK) program and the violence prevention
outreach of Thousand Waves. Punch & Kick-a-Thon 2013 was Saturday, November 2. 132 participants, including 17 ASK students and 25 parents did 1,000 punches and 1,000 kicks (or 500 or 250 each if they were in the Junior or Little Kicks program). Together, they raised $35,734, averaging $270 per person. The average donation size was $75. Kids who raised at least $200 were invited to reward parties.

The day started with the Juniors and Little Kicks version of Punch & Kick-a-Thon. Juniors and some of their parents did 500 punches & kicks, and Little Kicks did 250 of each.

Students from the Adapted Seido Karate (ASK) program punched and kicked together with the Thousand Waves kids. They also performed in a demonstration between the Junior and the Youth events.

The junior black belts also performed in the demonstration.
After the demo it was time for the Youth version of the Punch-and-Kick-a-Thon.
Youth students and some of their parents did 1,000 punches and 1,000 kicks.

After a job well done, each participant received a medal.
Parents and kids glowed with pride in their accomplishment.

With medals well-earned, all the Youth, parents and teachers gathered for a final photo.

A week later, reward parties were held for kids who raised at least $200. Here are some photos from the younger kids' carnival party.

"Seido Buckets" and "Bowling with Joshua" were other favorite games.

Thumbs up for a successful Punch-&-Kick-a-Thon 2013!
