Special Training 2009 - Two Roots Revealed By Rebecca Epstein with help from Kate Webster Last month I attended my second Special Training by the National Women's Martial Arts Federation (NWMAF). Besides having an excellent time, filled with physical training, martial arts learning and comradery, I was struck by the similarities between the beginnings and missions of the NWMAF and the World Seido Karate Organization. My experience made me realize that Thousand Waves has two strong roots - one in the Feminist Empowerment Movement (as carried on by the NWMAF) and one in the compassionate teachings of Kaicho (Grandmaster) Tadashi Nakamura's Seido Karate. |

Community Outreach
Thousand Waves recognizes that people with disabilities experience violence at highly elevated rates and that youth are among the most frequent targets of bullying. We felt it was very important to respond to this situation by creating an ongoing program to serve young people with disabilities. Fortunately, we were able to create a partnership with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), the Midwest's premier medical facility addressing the needs of individuals with physical challenges.
Help Thousand Waves' Find New Community Partners
In the next several days you will receive an email from me. This email contains a link to a survey which probes your minds for leads to possible new Community Partners. Community Partners are local businesses that share Thousand Waves commitment to creating a more peaceful and healthy world. In exchange for their financial support, Community Partners gain access to Thousand Waves 400+ receptive members as well as their families and friends. Thousand Waves is trying to grow its Community Partners Program with leads from its members and friends, which is how all our current Partners came about.
The survey should take you approximately 5 min. to complete. I beseech you to find time in your busy days to thoughtfully complete this survey. Still need persuading? Please read on...
